Smart Rotations mycorrhizal fungi with added plant growth promoting rhizobacteria now available pre blended with all supplied seeds.

Hurrells Seeds is pleased to announce a strategic partnership with PlantWorks Ltd, the UK’s leading producer of biofertilisers. The SMART ROTATIONS range of Mycorrhizal Fungi and Plant Growth Promoting Rhizobacteria are a result of five years of research, development and field trials and represent the state of the art in applied active biology for your forage, cover and ley treatments.

Produced in the UK, by a qualified team of mycologists and bacteriologists, the SMART ROTATIONS technology is blended at source by Hurrells and is available as an addition to all its seed blends. Grass and legumes are excellent hosts of mycorrhizal fungi and support the establishment of a robust fungal network. Adding mycorrhizal fungi to leys, forage or cover crops not only improves plant biomass but also enhances beneficial soil microbiology for any follow on crop.

Dan Gladstone comments, “We have seen a significant increase in demand for additions of mycorrhizal fungi within our standard and specialist blends and are pleased to announce that we can now offer the SMART ROTATIONS technology to our customers in 2018 to service this demand. We also look forward to introducing new products from the PlantWorks’ pipeline in the coming years”.

Seed blends will be offered with added SMART ROTATIONS 2 (SR2) containing five species of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) and a consortium of plant growth promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) in dry granule form which is distributed evenly in the blend for drilling or broadcasting on farm. For an increment from £8 per acre this combined technology functions to fix and increase the availability of nitrogen, unlock phosphorous, increase drought tolerance and water use efficiency, improve biomass and increase resistance against pests and diseases.
Jamie Stotzka the head of the farming team at PlantWorks emphasizes, “Grasses and legumes planted for forage, cover, catch or leys inoculated with SMART ROTATIONS SR2 represent an excellent method to increase the native soil microbiology that functions to make many of the macro-elements needed for plant growth more plant available.”
